Biography

Javier Calderon is a renowned guitarist and professor at the Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He gained acclaim for his solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, where he was praised for his "virtuoso poetic sensibility." Born in La Paz, Bolivia, Calderon captivated audiences with his performance at the age of 17 with the Bolivian National Symphony Orchestra. He is a distinguished artist who has extensively toured the United States, Europe, South America, and the Far East, regularly appearing as a soloist with major orchestras such as the St. Louis Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra. In addition to his solo performances, Calderon frequently collaborates in chamber music with notable artists including Yo-Yo Ma, and has been featured at numerous international music festivals.
