Biography

Javier Orlandi obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Barcelona in 2015, focusing on the emergence of spontaneous activity in neuronal cultures. He later pursued a short postdoctoral position at the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Jordi Soriano, studying effective connectivity in neuronal networks related to Huntington's disease. In August 2016, he joined Dr. Jörn Davidsen's group at the University of Calgary to further his research on the physics of neuronal systems. From 2019 to 2022, he was a Human Frontiers Fellow at the RIKEN Center for Brain Science in Japan, working in Dr. Andrea Benucci’s lab, where he explored the neuronal underpinnings of large-scale cortical processing in decision-making. In July 2022, he became an Assistant Professor and Full Member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, focusing his research on revealing the underlying principles of distributed coding of brain impact on perception and learning. He collaborates closely with experimental partners within the Computational Neuroscience Platform, which is key to the HBI's priority areas, including Neurodevelopment, Dementia & Cognitive Disorders, and Movement Disorders.
