Dr. Jay Baltz

Biography

Dr. Baltz received a B.A. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University, and completed postdoctoral training under Dr. John Biggers at Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Senior Scientist Emeritus at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa, while also being cross-appointed in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Dr. Baltz previously served as Associate Scientific Director at OHRI and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Fertility Andrology Society (CFAS). He has received several awards, including the Ontario Premier's Research Excellence Award and the James Shannon Award from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Baltz has been actively involved in training programs and committees related to health and reproduction. His research interests lie in reproductive and developmental biology, particularly exploring the changes that occur during the growth and maturation of mammalian oocytes and the early stages of embryo development. He is focused on the physiological mechanisms that support these processes and how dysregulation can affect health outcomes for embryos and offspring. Additionally, he has maintained active collaborations with researchers and serves on various scientific committees and journal editorial boards.
