Biography

Jay G. Hosking is a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. He teaches courses related to behavioral neuroscience and has an extensive academic background in neuroscience. He obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto, graduating with High Distinction. He completed his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia, where his research focused on how rats make decisions involving mental effort. Following this, he completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Harvard University, where he extended his research on decision-making to human populations. In addition to his work in neuroscience, he has a Master's in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from UBC and has published a debut novel. His research interests include individual differences, cost/benefit decision making, motivation, and the role of neuromodulators such as dopamine in addiction. His findings have been published in prestigious journals including Neuron, Neuropsychopharmacology, and Cerebral Cortex. He is also actively involved in supervising graduate students in the Department of Psychology.
