Dr. Jay Killoran

Biography

Jay Killoran is an assistant professor specializing in management information systems (MIS) at the Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria. He completed his PhD at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University in 2025. His research focuses on the social and ethical implications of human-technology interactions, including blame ascription to autonomous agents and the diffusion of responsibility in human-AI teams. He also explores biometric technologies and their impact on human well-being and the meaningfulness of work. Jay is passionate about the potential of emerging technologies to enhance productivity and augment human performance but is concerned about how such technologies may infringe on human rights and dignity. His research aims to inform organizations about the necessity of balancing technological innovation with human well-being in the workplace. Jay has published in leading journals including the Academy of Management Review, Organization Studies, and the Harvard Business Review, and has taught undergraduate courses at Ivey Business School and the Smith School of Business. He is recognized for his commitment to prioritizing student mental health and has received several teaching excellence awards.
