Biography

Jay H. Lee is the Choong Hoon Cho Chair Professor at the University of Southern California (USC), where he has established a prominent career in chemical engineering. Prior to his appointment at USC, he served as a faculty member at various global universities including Auburn, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). At KAIST, he held significant administrative roles, including department chair and associate vice president for the international office, and was the director of the Saudi Aramco-KAIST CO2 Management Center. His work primarily focuses on the application of modeling, optimization, and machine learning tools to address critical design, operation, and logistics challenges within the context of energy transition and sustainability. His research group, known as LENS^2E - Laboratory for Energy Sustainable Systems Engineering, engages in innovative projects spanning battery health estimation using machine learning, early evaluations of CO2 capture technologies, and the optimization of hydrogen production networks.
