Jay H. Lee is the Choong Hoon Cho Chair Professor at the University of Southern California. Before joining USC, he served as a faculty member at prestigious universities including Auburn, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and KAIST, where he held significant administrative roles such as department chair and associate vice president of the international office. His work primarily focuses on the modeling, optimization, and application of machine learning tools to address complex design, operation, and logistics challenges in the fields of energy transition and sustainability. At USC, he directs the LENS²E Laboratory for Energy Sustainable Systems Engineering, which emphasizes the design and operation of energy chemical systems through the integration of mathematical modeling, simulation, optimization, and artificial intelligence methods. Current research projects include battery system health estimation, evaluation of CO2 capture and conversion technologies, design of CO2-based supply chains, hydrogen production networks, and modular CO2 capture systems. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2022 KIChE Seokmyung Outstanding Chemical Engineer Award and 2011 IEEE Fellow distinction.
