Biography

Jay H. Lee is the Choong Hoon Cho Chair Professor at the University of Southern California (USC). Before joining USC, he held faculty positions at prominent global universities including Auburn, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and KAIST, where he also took on administrative roles such as department chair, associate vice president of the international office, and director of the Saudi Aramco-KAIST CO2 Management Center. His research primarily focuses on developing modeling, optimization, and machine learning tools aimed at solving complex design, operation, and logistics challenges in the fields of energy transition and sustainability. He leads the LENS^2E - Laboratory for Energy Sustainable Systems Engineering, concentrating on the design and operation of energy chemical systems with an emphasis on sustainable practices. Current research projects include estimating the remaining useful life of battery systems using machine learning, evaluating CO2 capture and conversion technologies, designing CO2-based product supply chain networks, and optimizing hydrogen production and distribution networks.
