Biography

Jay P. Lefkowitz is a Lecturer at Columbia Law School and a senior litigation partner at Kirkland & Ellis, based in the New York City office. He serves on the firm’s worldwide management committee and has acted as lead trial and appellate counsel in a diverse range of substantive areas, including securities, shareholder derivative actions, antitrust, intellectual property, breach of contract, and white collar defense matters. Lefkowitz has conducted numerous internal investigations for public companies and their audit committees. He represents investment banks, hedge funds, and pharmaceutical and telecommunications companies in litigation proceedings involving federal government agencies and state attorneys general. His research interests include commercial litigation, appellate litigation, securities, class actions, internal investigations, and product liability litigation. He earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1987, receiving the Harlan Fiske Scholarship, and graduated from Columbia University, where he was awarded the James Beard Political Science Prize.
