Dr. Jay Rubenstein

Biography

Professor Rubenstein studies cultural and intellectual history during the High Middle Ages, with emphases on the Crusades, monasticism, biblical exegesis, and prophetic thought. In addition to his teaching in the history department at the University of Southern California, he serves as the director of the Center for the Premodern World. His work has been recognized with various fellowships, including being a MacArthur Fellow from 2008 to 2012 and a recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship during 2007-2008. Additionally, he has been honored by the American Council for Learned Societies with multiple fellowships, including the Burkhardt Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome from 2006-2007 and another fellowship in 2002-2003, highlighting his significant contributions to the field of history.
