Jay Zarnetske is an environmental hydrologist exploring the hydrogeomorphic template of catchment ecosystems and groundwater-surface water exchange environments. His research group is interested in the hydrologic processes that influence aquatic ecosystems and how they respond to climate and land use change. Zarnetske's focus is on understanding the hydrologic processes that control complex patterns and interactions within aquatic ecosystems. His work encompasses Ground Water-Surface Water Interactions, particularly in Rivers and Riparian and Hyporheic Zones, as well as Emergent Patterns in Environmental Biogeochemistry, Stream Ecosystems, Nitrogen and Carbon Export & Retention, Ecological Flow Regimes, and Arctic Permafrost Influenced Stream Ecosystems. Zarnetske is an alumnus of Oregon State University (Ph.D.), Utah State University (M.S.), and Colby College (B.A.). He has also held multiple visiting scholar positions in Australia, New Zealand, and France and has extensive experience as a consulting hydrologist. Additionally, he teaches courses such as GLG 412: Glacial Geology and Climate Change.
