Biography

Jayashri Ravishankar has been a member of the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) since 2010. She is recognized as a Scientia Education Fellow and currently serves as the Associate Dean (Education) within the Faculty of Engineering. With a strong commitment to engineering education, she has developed innovative teaching practices that reflect both her deep passion for the field and her dedication to student learning. Her teaching and research interests include power system modeling, analysis, control, renewable integration, smart grids, and microgrids. Professor Ravishankar is known for her leadership in advanced teaching methodologies within electrical engineering, designing initiatives that promote student ownership of their learning experiences. She has published more than 30 papers in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within peer-reviewed journals and conferences and has delivered 80 invited keynote lectures internationally. In 2020, she pioneered a new model for engineering education through a PhD program, with an emphasis on graduating students by 2024, and has successfully supervised 16 higher degree research completions in her discipline. Her contributions extend beyond teaching to significant leadership roles in the School and Faculty at UNSW, along with a commitment to institutional growth and success, as evidenced by multiple accolades including UNSW Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards and a Senior Fellowship from Advance HE in the UK, as well as a national citation for outstanding contributions to student learning from the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT).
