Jaydev P. Desai is a Professor and BME Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He joined Georgia Tech in August 2016 after serving as a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. He received his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India in 1993, followed by a Master of Arts in Mathematics in 1997, and a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Applied Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995 and 1998, respectively. Desai completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. He has published over 150 articles and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Medical Robotics Research. His research focuses on image-guided surgical robotics, rehabilitation robotics, cancer diagnosis at the micro-scale, and human augmentation. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the NIH R01 grants and the NSF CAREER award, and was awarded the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award in 2011. Desai is also a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
