Biography

Jean-François Bouchard is a distinguished professor at the Université de Montréal, where he serves in the School of Optometry. He has a comprehensive background in pharmacy, having received his B.Pharm in Pharmacy in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Pharmacodynamics-Biochemistry in 2000 from the same institution. Following his doctoral studies, he completed a postdoctoral stage at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill University in 2004. His research focuses on the identification of mediators involved in synaptogenesis within the central nervous system, with a goal to develop new therapeutic agents for treating congenital and degenerative diseases as well as secondary lesions from accidents. Bouchard’s work also includes studying the agents involved in the plasticity of the visual cortex, aiming to develop strategies to potentially treat hereditary and post-traumatic blindness. Over his academic career, he has supervised various graduate and doctoral students, contributing significantly to advancing knowledge in neuropharmacology and vision sciences. He engages in numerous research projects and collaborations, examining the impacts of cannabinoids and endocannabinoids on the visual system, thereby bridging gaps in understanding neurobiological functions and visual perception related to pathologies such as Huntington's and Alzheimer's diseases.
