Jean-Ju L. Chung received a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Seoul National University, Korea, and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in Neuroscience and Biochemistry in 2007. Following her doctoral studies, she completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Neurobiology. In September 2015, she joined Yale's Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology as an Associate Professor. Her research focuses on cellular signaling, membrane receptors, and ion channels, with particular emphasis on the role of calcium channels in sperm motility and fertility regulation. The Chung laboratory aims to apply novel technologies to study sperm biology and its implications for reproductive medicine. Current research investigates the CatSper calcium channels that are crucial for sperm hyperactivation and their involvement in fertilization processes. Dr. Chung's goal is to further understand the molecular organization of sperm and the signaling mechanisms that dictate male fertility, aiming to improve reproductive technologies and develop new contraceptive methods. She has published extensively in her field and is recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher.
