Jean-Ju L. Chung received his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Seoul National University, Korea, and his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2007. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship under David E. Clapham at Harvard Medical School. In September 2015, he joined Yale's Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology as a faculty member. His research focuses on investigating cellular signaling mechanisms, particularly in relation to membrane receptors and ion channels that regulate spermatozoan motility and fertilization capacity. Chung has notably concentrated his efforts on the primary calcium channel in spermatozoa known as CatSper, which plays a crucial role in sperm function and fertility regulation. Ongoing projects in his lab aim to elucidate the molecular changes in membrane receptors and ion channels within the female reproductive tract that lead to infertility. His work has the potential to enhance in vitro fertilization techniques and to inform new contraceptive strategies, ultimately contributing to the understanding of reproductive biology and medical research.
