Biography

Jean-Michel Turcotte is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of History at Carleton University. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at UQAC and his Master’s and Ph.D. at Université Laval in 2018. Turcotte specializes in the history of war and armed conflict, with particular research interests in wartime captivity, humanitarianism, and international humanitarian law. He has contributed to major historical works, including the Official History of Canadian Military Observers in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1954 to 1973, and is currently involved in the Official History of Canadian Peace Support Operations from 1945 to 1971. Notable past positions include fellowships at the Leibniz Institute of European History and the University of Potsdam. His research has been recognized with various grants and fellowships. Turcotte is active in collaborating with graduate students and has published numerous articles and books, focusing on critical aspects of Canadian military history and international relations during times of conflict.
