Dr. Jean Beckham

Biography

Dr. Jean Crowell Beckham is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University, with a focus on trauma assessment and treatment, particularly in populations affected by military service. She specializes in the differential outcomes of psychopharmacological and behavioral interventions for PTSD and its long-term physical health effects, especially in women and men. Dr. Beckham has been awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense for her research on various aspects of trauma and mental health, including the development of computerized anger management protocols and cognitive rehabilitation treatment for veterans with mild traumatic brain injury. Her commitment to improving mental health outcomes also extends to suicide prevention initiatives and enhancing self-management techniques for chronic pain patients suffering from PTSD. In addition to her research, she serves as a team leader for Bass Connections, focusing on noninvasive neuromodulation and addiction.
