Biography

Originally from Brazil, Jean Bertoldo moved to Australia to join the Children’s Cancer Institute in March 2022, where he was appointed Team Leader of the newly established Chemical Biology Target-Based Drug Design Group. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, where he developed new methods to chemically modify proteins to modulate their function. Additionally, he has worked at prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge in the UK and the University of Lisbon in Portugal, focusing on innovative approaches in drug discovery. In Germany, at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Halle-Wittenberg, he pioneered a new drug treatment for ovarian cancer using a covalent inhibitor of RNA-binding proteins. At the Children’s Cancer Institute, Dr. Bertoldo's team is dedicated to integrating chemistry with cancer biology to design new drugs for the treatment of childhood cancers, with a focus on neuroblastoma, medulloblastoma, and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).
