Biography

Jean Charest is a specialist in workforce development and the role of institutions in the labor market. He began his academic career in 1997 at the School of Industrial Relations at the Université de Montréal, serving as director from 2010 to 2015. He is a teacher and researcher who has directed and co-directed 25 research projects funded by Canadian and international organizations. Charest is a co-founder of the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la mondialisation et le travail (CRIMT), an interuniversity research center renowned for its studies on globalization and labor. As a recognized expert in his field, he has been invited on several occasions to advise government agencies and professional organizations. Furthermore, he has forged agreements with major Chinese universities and founded an international summer school to promote student exchanges, alongside establishing a scholarship fund, the Intergenerational Fund. Before joining the Université de Montréal, Charest worked as an economist with the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN) and taught economics at the CEGEP level. He has participated in numerous negotiations with public and private sector organizations.
