Jean Duhaime is a recognized expert in Dead Sea manuscripts, particularly known for his work on the War Scroll, a text specific to the Qumran community that characterizes the Jewish group that produced it between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century CE. His interest in the ancient Jewish world has led him to cultivate a special relationship with contemporary Jewish communities and to engage in a Christian-Jewish dialogue group. He earned a Bachelor of Religious Sciences from the Université de Montréal in 1971, a Master of Theology in 1974, and a Master of Sociology in 1996. Additionally, he completed a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in 1973 and a second-cycle diploma from the École Biblique et Archéologique Française de Jérusalem in 1976. From 1976 to 2013, he was a professor of biblical interpretation at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of the Université de Montréal, where he served as dean from 2005 to 2009. He mainly taught the books of the prophets, the Psalms, wisdom literature, and ancient Jewish literature, publishing around fifteen books or journal issues and 70 scientific articles in his field. He is currently collaborating on the publication of "La Bibliothèque de Qumrân," a bilingual edition of the Dead Sea Manuscripts, and the project “La Bible en ses traditions,” a new translation of the Bible accompanied by notes on its reception in Jewish and Christian traditions.
