Biography

Jean Emond serves as the Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at Columbia University, where he is also the Program Director for the Transplant & Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship. With over 30 years of experience, he specializes in liver transplantation and complex liver and biliary surgery, both for adults and children. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to the advancement of living donor liver transplantation in the United States, serving as the national co-chair of the NIH-sponsored Adult-to-Adult Living Donor Liver Transplantation (A2ALL) consortium from 2002 to 2015. Dr. Emond's work includes research on the safety and outcomes of living donor liver transplants, as well as studies on optimizing liver allocation strategies for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. He has received numerous accolades, including being named a Top Doctor by New York Magazine for several consecutive years. Dr. Emond's leadership roles have extended to being the past president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He has a wealth of knowledge in both clinical and research settings, particularly in transplant immunology and pediatric liver transplantation.
