Biography

Jean Hillabold has been teaching first-year English courses at the University of Regina for over twenty-five years. She holds a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Regina. Her main research interests include writing about women, particularly lesbians, speculative fiction, and erotica. Hillabold has authored numerous articles, including 'Lesbian Publishing' (1988) and 'Tribal Consciousness Reborn' (1989), both of which appeared in Lesbian Gay Studies by the Modern Languages Association. Furthermore, she has given informal academic talks, such as one on the history and status of erotica in 2001. Hillabold has published extensively in fiction, winning several awards for her work. Among her publications is the co-edited volume 'OutSpoken: Perspectives on Queer Identities' (University of Regina Press, 2013), where she collaborated with Dr. Wes Pearce. Under the pen name 'Jean Roberta,' she has had over 100 stories published, with multiple collections available, including a historical novella. In 2004, her one-act play 'Smoke Mirrors' was produced by the Globe Theatre in Regina. In 2010, she legally married Mirtha Rivera.
