Biography

Jean Langhorne is the Director of the Crick Africa Network and a Principal Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute. She obtained her BSc from Bedford College, University of London, and an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Langhorne completed her PhD at the Medical Research Council Clinical Research Centre in London. Following her doctorate, she pursued postdoctoral training in immunology and malaria at Guy's Hospital Medical School in London before moving to the Basel Institute of Immunology in Switzerland. In the USA, she was awarded a Fogarty fellowship to join the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health. After four years, she transitioned to the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg, Germany, where she established her own research group. Langhorne has been leading a group at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research (now part of the Francis Crick Institute) since 1998, with her current research interests focused on understanding the regulation of protective and pathogenic immune responses in experimental models of malaria, particularly in humans infected with Plasmodium falciparum.
