Biography

Jean Liew graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Biology and English before earning her MD at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University and went on to a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Washington, where she concurrently earned an MS in Epidemiology. As an Assistant Professor in the Medicine Section of Rheumatology at Boston University, her clinical research primarily focuses on knee osteoarthritis and axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), particularly the cardiovascular comorbidities associated with these conditions. Liew is a member of the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance and sits on the Steering Committee, contributing to multiple projects involving data collection, analysis, and dissemination to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on individuals with rheumatic diseases. She is also active in promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within her department. Liew's work has been recognized through various awards including the 2022 SAA/Jane Bruckel Early Career Investigator AxSpA Award and she aims to foster mentorship for the next generation of learners.
