Biography

Dr. Jean Mathews is a palliative care physician and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen's University. She is also a Faculty Scientist within the Division of Cancer Care Epidemiology at the Cancer Research Institute. Since joining Queen's University in 2021, she has been actively involved in various programs, including the Queen's Global Oncology Program and the Queen's Health Sciences Research Ethics Board. Dr. Mathews completed her one-year clinical fellowship in palliative medicine at the University Health Network in Toronto, followed by a two-year clinical research fellowship in the same field at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Her research interests include quality improvement, global oncology, and palliative care. In recognition of her contributions, she has received several grants, including the SEAMO education grant to develop point-of-care ultrasound training for palliative care, and the SEAMO innovation grant to implement a social support intervention for patients with serious illness. Dr. Mathews is dedicated to improving access to early palliative care and has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed oncology and palliative care journals.
