Biography

Jean Rife is a Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), specializing in chamber music coaching. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and a Master of Arts from Harvard University. As a dedicated musician, she coaches ensembles for the MIT Chamber Music Society and conducts woodwind and brass sectionals for the MIT Symphony. Rife has garnered recognition as a horn soloist, earning a prize at the Heldenleben International Horn Competition. Her performance experience spans across several countries, including Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, South America, and the United States. Rife has made numerous recordings for renowned labels such as Telarc, Telefunken, Titanic, Harmonia Mundi, Arabesque, as well as for BBC Radio and WGBH. She also conducts 'Yoga for Musicians' workshops at festivals and universities across the country. Additionally, she has revitalized her interest in keyboard instruments by studying the harpsichord under Peter Sykes and has performed full-length solo recitals alongside professional musicians, including participants from MIT Symphony Orchestra. Rife is also a faculty member in brass chamber music at the New England Conservatory, where she is involved in recitals at Killian Hall and other performances.
