Biography

Founder of the adolescent medicine section of the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and CHU Sainte-Justine in 1974, I directed this section for many years and remain active in it. For the last twenty years, I have been almost entirely dedicated to understanding the issue of anorexia nervosa during adolescence and the care provided to this unique client group. My involvement in anorexia nervosa follows earlier work with adolescents using drugs, in cases of adolescent sexuality, suicide attempts, and difficulties adjusting to parental separation and divorce. The operational model in adolescent medicine that I established early in my career is based on an interdisciplinary approach that was innovative at the time.
