Biography

Jeannette Estruth is a historian specializing in the twentieth-century United States, with an emphasis on technology, labor, and the history of Silicon Valley. She is currently an Assistant Professor of History at Santa Clara University and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Additionally, she serves as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley’s Center for Science, Technology, Medicine, and Society. Estruth is the co-founder and co-director of the Political Economy of Contemporary Technology Working Group at Stanford University’s Silicon Valley Archives. She received her doctorate in History from New York University in 2018 and was a finalist for the 2019 Herman E. Krooss Prize for her dissertation in Business History. Her research has been supported by prestigious institutions, including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Bard College, and the Huntington Library. Estruth's scholarly work has appeared in various journals, including Business History Review, California History, and IEEE Annals of the History of Computing. She is also known for her public-facing writing in outlets such as The Washington Post and Business Insider. Currently, she is completing a book titled "Think Silicon Valley: Activism and the Making of Modern American Politics," which explores the intersections of social movements, the technology industry, and economic culture in the United States.
