Biography

Jeannie Callum is a Transfusion Medicine Specialist and Hematologist at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre, with a primary appointment in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and a cross-appointment in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University. She leads the QUEST transfusion research program and holds a professorship in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. Her research interests in transfusion medicine focus on error tracking, blood utilization, and the management of coagulopathy associated with traumatic injury and post-cardiac surgery. Dr. Callum has been actively involved in the development of the U.S. Biovigilance Network and the Canadian Transfusion Error Surveillance System. She has participated in numerous clinical trials, including ABLE, PROPPR, FIIRST, TACS, FIBRES, ROC-TXA, and FARES FiiRST-2. Dr. Callum has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and numerous book chapters, including the Provincial transfusion handbook titled "Bloody Easy," for which she is the lead author and is currently preparing the fifth edition. Additionally, she serves on the editorial boards of "Transfusion Medicine Reviews" and "Transfusion" journals.
