Biography

Jed Kaplan studied Earth Sciences and Geography at Dartmouth College, USA, and received his Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from Lund University, Sweden. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany, and worked at the Canadian Centre for Climate Modeling and Analysis in Victoria, BC, Canada. He was a Marie Curie Fellow hosted by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy, and has held positions in Switzerland, including professorships at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the University of Geneva, and the University of Lausanne, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the European Research Council. Jed is currently a Professor in the Departments of Earth, Energy, Environment, and Computer Science at the University of Calgary, Canada. His research interests focus on the relationships between land cover, climate, and human-environment interactions that affect environmental feedback and human health. His work aims to reveal how human activities and natural cycles interact and influence climate and ecosystems over the long term.
