Professor Kim joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2015 and has been a joint faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering since 2016. Prior to his appointment at MIT, he was a research staff member at IBM’s Thomas J. Kim earned his Bachelor's degree from Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea, a Master's degree from Seoul National University, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, all in materials science engineering.
