Biography

Jeeyun Chung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology at Harvard University. Her research focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms controlling lipid metabolism, particularly the role of lipid droplets in cellular function and neuronal health. Her work aims to address critical questions within cell biology, such as the regulatory mechanisms of autophagic lipid recycling, also known as lipophagy. This research is particularly relevant for understanding various diseases, including obesity, fatty liver disease, cancer, and neurological disorders. Through the use of advanced microscopy and mass spectrometry-based analytics, she investigates cellular fat metabolism and inter-organelle communication. Her lab is engaged in projects that explore how lipids traffic within cells and their roles in pathology, aiming to identify potential therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
