Biography

Jeff Albert is an Associate Professor and Interim Chair at the School of Music at Georgia Tech, with a focus on creative research practices in music technology and improvisation. He is a noted musician and technologist, having performed at various festivals across the U.S. and Europe, and has contributed as a performer, producer, and engineer to over 60 recordings. In 2017, he was awarded a Grammy for Traditional Blues Album and recognized as a Rising Star in the DownBeat Critics Poll for his album 'Unanimous Sources.' Jeff earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Music and Digital Media from Louisiana State University in 2013. He was also a founding member of the Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana (LOLs). His research interests include creating structures for improvisational performance, exploring the interaction between musicians and computer processes, and developing interactive musical computer agents. Jeff teaches courses on the Fundamentals of Musicianship and Music Recording and Mixing at both undergraduate and graduate levels, additionally advising graduate research and undergraduate capstone projects.
