Dr. Jeff Caswell

Biography

Dr. Jeff Caswell is a Professor and Graduate Coordinator at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and a Doctorate in Veterinary Science (DVSc) from the University of Guelph, with a PhD from the University of Saskatchewan. His expertise includes the pathogenesis of infectious diseases, particularly related to the lung and innate immune responses associated with opportunistic infections. His research has significant implications in the understanding of bacterial pneumonia, a major cause of mortality in food-producing animals. Dr. Caswell investigates factors influencing innate immune responses in animals, aiming to identify genetic factors that contribute to disease susceptibility and develop strategies to augment resistance to infection. Current projects also focus on the impacts of stress and viral infections on airway immune responses. His teaching encompasses both undergraduate and graduate courses on principles of disease and pathology, fostering the next generation of veterinary health leaders.
