Biography

Jeff D. Colgan is the Richard Holbrooke Professor and Director of the Climate Solutions Lab at the Watson Institute for Public and International Affairs at Brown University. His research focuses on international order, particularly in the context of energy and the environment. His latest book, 'Partial Hegemony: Oil Politics and International Order,' was published in September 2021 by Oxford University Press and has garnered the 2021 Book Prize from the American Energy Society. Colgan's earlier work, 'Petro-Aggression: Oil Causes War,' published in 2013 by Cambridge University Press, also examines the intersection of oil and conflict. His publications include articles in prestigious journals such as International Organization, Foreign Affairs, World Politics, and International Security. Prior to his role at Brown University, he taught at the School of International Service at American University from 2010 to 2014 and was a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Colgan completed his Ph.D. at Princeton University and was a Canada-U.S. Fulbright Scholar at UC Berkeley, where he earned a master's in public policy. His experience includes work with the World Bank, McKinsey & Company, and the Brattle Group.
