Biography

Joined the Department in 2021, Dr. Jones’ research focuses on understanding the inputs of network regulation and outputs of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), a well-defined pacemaker that anticipates reliable daily events in light cycles. His studies involve dissecting the circuits that regulate circadian rhythms to understand how disruptions contribute to metabolic, cardiovascular, and mood disorders. His overarching goal is to comprehend how the SCN encodes information downstream to neurons, leading to various physiological and behavioral rhythms. He has developed novel methods to measure and manipulate in vivo circadian rhythms, which are critical for understanding how SCN firing interacts with clock genes and downstream neuronal rhythms. His research objectives aim to clarify how specific neurons encode daily timing signals and integrate circadian input signals, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of circadian dysfunctions and their symptoms.
