Dr. Jeff Kildea

Biography

Jeff Kildea is an Honorary Professor at the University of New South Wales in the School of Humanities & Languages, specializing in Irish-Australian history. He has an extensive academic background, having earned a BA, LLB, and LLM from the University of Sydney, and an MA from the University of New South Wales, culminating in a PhD focused on sectarianism in early 20th-century Australia. His professional career includes practicing law as a solicitor from 1974 to 1979 and as a barrister from 1979 to 2013. Kildea has taught at the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney’s Centre for Continuing Education, and in 2014, he held the prestigious Keith Cameron Chair in Australian History at University College Dublin. He has published several notable books on the subject, including 'Tearing Fabric: Sectarianism in Australia 1910-1925' and 'Anzacs in Ireland'. His work frequently examines the complexities of Irish-Australian identity and history, contributing significantly to the field through publications and presentations in Australia, Ireland, and the United States.
