Biography

Jeff King joined University College London Laws in 2011 and became a Professor of Law in 2016. He serves as the Deputy Director of the Global Centre for Democratic Constitutionalism and participates in Editorial Committees for journals such as Public Law and the Federal Law Review. He has previously been the Co-Editor for Current Legal Problems and the UK Constitutional Law Blog. Before coming to UCL, he held various academic positions including Fellow Tutor in Law at Balliol College, Oxford, and CUF Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford (2008-2011). King also worked as an attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City (2003-2004). He has held visiting posts at several institutions including the University of Oxford, the University of Toronto, and Renmin University in Beijing. His book, 'Judging Social Rights,' published by Cambridge University Press in 2012, won the Peter Birks Prize for Outstanding Legal Scholarship in 2014. King has received multiple awards including the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Law. His recent projects include serving as a legal adviser for the House of Lords Select Committee on the Constitution and co-leading the Lex-Atlas: Covid-19 project, which produced an Oxford Compendium on National Legal Responses to Covid-19.
