Biography

Jeffrey B. Peterson is a Professor of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on designing and building novel radio telescopes at some of the world's quietest sites to study dark energy and the expansion of the universe. He has been involved in exploring Fast Radio Bursts and the formation of stars after the Big Bang. His work includes the development of cylindrical reflectors, large arrays of satellite dishes, and ultra-precise multi-octave spectrometers. His research team has conducted projects at significant sites including Isla Guadalupe in Mexico and the Marion Island, located 2000 km south of South Africa. Furthermore, his group has worked with telescopes at the South Pole aimed at understanding the total mass contents of the universe. Since joining Carnegie Mellon University in 1985, Peterson has occupied various academic roles including Assistant Professor at Princeton University from 1985 to 1993 and has authored numerous well-regarded publications in the field of astrophysics, expanding the understanding of cosmic phenomena.
