Professor Jeffrey Reading has more than two decades of experience enhancing knowledge in Indigenous health issues in Canada and globally. He obtained his Bachelor of Physical Education in 1983 from the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta, followed by a Master of Science in 1991 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1994, both from the University of Toronto. He was the founding Director of the Centre for Aboriginal Health Research at the University of Victoria in British Columbia and served as the inaugural Scientific Director of the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research from 2000 to 2008. Jeff has made significant contributions to public health research, focusing on the limited social determinants of health, environmental issues, and health promotion. His leadership in research has led to national agendas addressing Aboriginal health, and he has received numerous awards, including the C.P. Shah Alumni Award for Excellence in Public Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, in 2015. In addition, Jeff led the Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health as its inaugural Interim Director and has held the position of Chair in Heart Health and Wellness at St. Paul’s Hospital, Simon Fraser University.
