Biography

Jeff Skopek is a Professor of Law and the Deputy Director of the Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Cambridge. His research explores the normative conceptual foundations of health law, with a specific focus on the controversies that constitute harm and benefit in medical care and the healthcare system. He is currently working on two projects that utilize artificial intelligence in healthcare and another concerning animal rights. In addition to his academic work, he serves on the Ethics Sustainability Board of bit.bio, a synthetic biology company that creates human cells for research and drug discovery in cell therapy. Prior to his current position, he held a three-year Academic Fellowship at Harvard Law School’s Petrie-Flom Centre for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics. He has also served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Lynch of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Skopek holds a J.D. (magna cum laude) from Harvard Law School, a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge, and an A.B. in History (with distinction) from Stanford University.
