Dr. Jeff Wilson

Biography

Jeff Wilson is a Professor in the Department of Culture and Language Studies at the University of Waterloo. He holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also completed his Master's degree. He received his Bachelor's degree from Sarah Lawrence College. His research primarily focuses on comparative religions, Buddhism in the American context, and the intersection of religion and culture. He has authored several notable works, including 'Mindful America: Mutual Transformation Buddhist Meditation American Culture' and 'Dixie Dharma: Buddhist Temples in the American South.' In addition to these books, he has published numerous articles in reputable journals, exploring themes like Unitarian Universalism and same-sex marriage, and American Buddhist practices. As the chair of his department, he also engages in significant professional activities, including serving on editorial boards and committees. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses covering a wide range of topics within religious studies, emphasizing diverse religious traditions and their contemporary relevance.
