Biography

Professor Chan received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia in 2006 and his PhD from Simon Fraser University in 2011, working under Professor Andrew Bennet. He was recognized with the Boehringer Ingelheim Doctoral Research Award for having one of the top Canadian theses. From 2011 to 2014, he was a Human Frontiers Science Program Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, under Professor Christopher Chang. He began his independent career at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2014 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry. Chan's research includes complex molecule synthesis, chemical biology, and the development of analyte-responsive imaging agents and drug delivery platforms. He is actively working on developing chemical probes for early cancer diagnosis and new inhibitors for tuberculosis treatment, as well as investigating the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.
