Professor Chan received a BSc in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia in 2006 and a PhD from Simon Fraser University in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Bennet. His graduate work was recognized with the Boehringer Ingelheim Doctoral Research Award for having the top Canadian thesis. From 2011 to 2014, he was a Human Frontiers Science Program Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, working with Prof. Christopher Chang. He began his independent career at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2014, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry. His research interests include complex molecule synthesis, chemical biology, analyte-responsive imaging agents, and drug delivery platforms. Additionally, he focuses on developing small-molecule inhibitors to treat tuberculosis infections and using chemical protein-based probes to understand mechanisms underlying neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
