Biography

Jeffrey Blakely is an Adjunct Professor specializing in Classical Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His primary research focus is on the archaeology of the Hesi region in Gaza and Hebron, spanning the past ten millennia. Blakely began his work in the Hesi region in 1971 and currently co-directs the Hesi Regional Project in collaboration with Jimmy Hardin from Mississippi State University. He has published numerous books and articles related to the archaeology and history of the Hesi region. Blakely is in the process of preparing the final report of an archaeological survey in the Hesi area alongside Hardin and is also working on a lengthy multi-author article that discusses the archaeology of the 10th century BCE relevant to the Hesi region. His extensive work includes excavations at sites such as Caesarea Maritima in Israel, Wadi al-Jubah in Yemen, and Aqaba in Jordan, in addition to various locations within the United States. In his teaching role, he offers courses on archaeology and Biblical Archaeology, guiding students in directed study courses focused on the archaeology and culture of the Holy Land.
