Biography

Jeffrey R. Brown is the Josef Margot Lakonishok Professor Business Dean at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He serves as Director of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Retirement Research Center in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Brown previously held the position of founding director of the Center for Business and Public Policy at the University of Illinois. He earned his PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University, and bachelor's degrees in Economics and Political Science from Miami University. As a research associate at NBER and faculty affiliate of the Institute of Government Policy Affairs, he has contributed significantly to discussions in finance and political economy. Dr. Brown has also served in various capacities including trustee of TIAA and Vice Chair of the Board of Managers for UI Singapore Research LLC. His research extensively covers public and private insurance markets with a particular emphasis on retirement security. He is an accomplished author with publications in major economic journals and has received several awards for his scholarly contributions. Brown co-founded and served as the editor for the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance.
