Biography

Jeffrey Michael Field, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in Systems Pharmacology and focuses his research on Ras signaling in cancer, investigating how mutations in oncogenes lead to uncontrolled growth, a hallmark of cancer. His work explores the cellular mechanisms involved in the activation of the Ras oncogene, which contributes to increased cell proliferation, cytoskeletal reorganization, and inhibition of apoptosis in tumor cells. Dr. Field has employed high-throughput screening and genomics in his studies, aiming to validate lead compounds and develop new screening platforms for targeting Ras oncogenes. Additionally, he has researched the environmental impacts on toxicology, linking carcinogenic substances to oxidative stress in smokers.
