Biography

Jeffrey Goldsworthy worked at Monash University from 1984, holding a Personal Chair since 2000 until retiring at the end of 2016. Post-retirement, he engaged actively in legal research with major interests in legal philosophy, constitutional law, theory, and history. Jeffrey has numerous publications in these fields, including the notable books 'The Sovereignty of Parliament: History and Philosophy' (Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1999) and 'Parliamentary Sovereignty: Contemporary Debates' (Cambridge University Press, 2010), along with an edited volume titled 'Interpreting Constitutions: A Comparative Study' (Oxford University Press, 2006). He also authored various journal articles regarding statutory and constitutional interpretation. Jeffrey holds degrees from the University of Adelaide, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his Doctor of Laws from the University of Adelaide in 2002, and has taught law at the University of Nottingham among others. Honors include being made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant contributions to education and legal history.
