Biography

Jeffrey Hales is a Professor in the Department of Accounting at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin. He holds the Bake Chair in Global Sustainability Leadership and is the Charles T. Zlatkovich Centennial Professor of Accounting. Hales serves as the Executive Director of the Global Sustainability Leadership Institute. From July 2022, he was a member of the International Sustainability Standards Board. Additionally, from 2012 to 2022, he held various leadership roles in the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), including Chair of the SASB Standards Board. Hales was a research fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in 2009-2010 and served as a member of FASB's Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council from 2016 to 2019. He earned his Ph.D. from Cornell University and completed his graduate program in accounting at Brigham Young University.
